In a 16 team league table, Brentwood were two points ahead of East Thurrock United and Woodford Town at the summit with East Ham United bottom having only secured one point in their 12 matches and seven behind 15th place Maldon Town. Canvey Island were in 5th place, current champions, Brightlingsea United 6th, Stambridge 7th, Burnham Ramblers 8th Southend Manor 9th, Chelmsford City Reserves 10th, Ford United 11th, Bowers United 12th, Eton Manor 13th and Stansted 14th. How times change !!!
Division One found Sawbridgeworth Town Reserves three points ahead of Burnham Ramblers Reserves.
In the Herts Senior Trophy, Sawbridgeworth Town lost 1-3 at Wingate.
Brentwood beat Woodford Town 2-0 at Snakes Lane. In Canvey’s 1-1 draw with Stambridge, their scorer was Billy Heale, still a Director of the club. In the Southend Manor game there was a debut for Tara Brady, son of former player Chris Brady who was now the Manager of the Combined Services team.
Everyone at East Thurrock United were looking forward to their F A Vase second round tie at Vauxhall Div 2 South, Yeading on 16th.
In the top, old division One, Charlton Athletic drew 1 1 with Millwall, AFC Wimbledon drew 1 1 with Derby County and in Division Two, Watford beat Oldham Athletic 3 0 whilst in the F A Cup Whitley Bay beat Preston 2 0.
