Riding high at the top of the table were Canvey Island with six wins out of six and an Essex Senior Trophy 4 1 win at Burnham Ramblers and looking forward to an F A Vase Preliminary Round tie v Peterborough City who they would beat on their way to a memorable run to the Semi-Final with Tiverton Town. Waltham Abbey, in the same competition forgo home advantage with East Ham United but still won 6 0. Southend Manor won 1-0 at Barkingside thanks to Joey Jones, Basildon United were very hopeful of Council backing for a new stadium ? They managed a 3 1 success at Bowers United, Hullbridge Sports 5 2 against Romford but their were losses for Maldon Town and Brentwood.
In the 17 club League programme Concord Rangers, minus the first Managerial casualty of the season, Eddie Crace drew 0 0 with Ford United and Sawbridgeworth Town beat Great Wakering Rovers 3 1 but the sad news of the week was the passing of Don Douglas, a very familiar and hard working member of Brentwood FC and the clubs League representative. He was never afraid to offer advice and it was all good.
Stansted propped up the table with East Ham United just above them and in a 14 strong Reserve Division, Bowers United Reserves led with Maldon still looking for a point. The Leading scorers wre both Pizzey and Jones of Canvey Island with six apiece but with four in the Senior Division was Nicky Kemp of Sawbridgeworth Town who also led the Reserve Division with seven, not a unique achievement as Tony Swanborough of Burnham Ramblers was the last, but good going all the same.
