It was a successful day for the League with two clubs through to the 2nd Qualifying Round of the FA Cup, Enfield Town winning 1-0 at Edgware Town and Burnham Ramblers in a 2 1 success at Haverhill Rovers.
In the League, Concord Rangers took advantage of Basildon United’s 0-1 defeat by Bowers United and went top of the division winning 2-1 at Brentwood. Eton Manor beat London APSA 3-2, Ilford won 4-1 against bottom of the table with Nil points after five games, Hullbridge Sports, Romford were 5-1 winners against Southend Manor with the kick off delayed until 3.30pm due to the A127 being closed, 17 year old Andrew Oxby scored twice for the 'Boro. Stansted got the better of Sawbridgeworth Town 1-0 and Waltham Abbey drew 4-4 with Barkingside.
In the previous week, Sporting Bengal United took part in the Asian Cup Final at Celtic’s Parkhead Stadium, Glasgow and won 3-1 against Scottish Asian Sports in front of 5,000! London APSA reached the semi-final stage. Romford suffered a 3-2 defeat at Ruislip Manor in the London Senior Cup and Southend Manor, having drawn their FA Vase 1st Qualifying Round game at Stewarts and Lloyds in Corby lost 5-4 on penalties after a midweek 2-2 draw at Southchurch Park but one bonus came the way of this writer in being able to buy a haggis and chips (haggis supper) for the first time outside of Scotland!
The leading goalscorer was Danny Heale of Concord Rangers with 10, three ahead of Tim O’Reilly of Sawbridgeworth Town - he would keep that lead for all the season.
