OTD - May Over the Years, Part 3

21/05/1994, A rather obscure record came the way of Stansted FC and the League when Scott Ardley scored 33 goals for his Reserve side and 6 for the first team, being the leading scorer overall when both Divisions were counted. His Reserve tally was the best in the League.

22/05/2004, Neil Harris, formerly of Great Wakering Rovers and Maldon Town became the second ever former ESL player behind Gordon Hill to play in the F A Cup Final when he turned out for Millwall v Manchester United at the Millennium Stadium, Cardiff.

23/05/1987, St. Osyth, a first team in Division One achieved their record attendance of 60 against Sawbridgeworth Town Reserves with fans able to read, at 24 page plus, the best Programme in the League!

24/05/1984, Stansted’s long and very successful season comes to a close with a 1-1 draw away at East Thurrock United, the game being played at Beckton FC.

25/05/1976, The season’s last game and FA Vase winners, Billericay Town were at Brightlingsea Utd having already won the League, the score was 1-1.

26/05/1982, Basildon United, having won the League on 19th May beat Brentwood 5-0 in their last match of the season.

27/05/1982, Stansted and Sawbridgeworth Town’s League game was never played due to the season closing though Stansted were awarded 2 points later.

28/05/1988, A Saturday in that season and there was one Premier Division game left, Woodford Town and Brightlingsea Utd with a 4-1 result. Four Reserve games were played which left two un-played.

29/05/1982, The last Saturday in that season and three games were left, Maldon Town v Bowers United 3-2, Sawbridgeworth Town v Coggeshall Town 2-1 and Wivenhoe Town v Halstead Town 2-2.

30/05/2016, Clapton’s attendances over the whole season surpassed any in League history with the highest being 761 and an average of 335!

09/06/1982, Before the FA enforced a close season as from 1st June, a League record that will remain forever is held by Wivenhoe Town who, on 9th June 1982 beat Eton Manor 6-1 in the final game of that season.
