Back in 1947 a new eight page paper for Amateur Football fans in the London area came about and Volumn 1 No 46 was issued on Friday September 26th price 3d. There was masses of match reports and results so we will concentrate on the most important news and any mentions of those clubs that are no longer with us .

Uxbridge FC were given notice to vacate their home at RAF Uxbridge as it was required for use of Olympic athletes in 1948. They bought a house and ground for £5,800 at Cowley that would become their new home.

It was F A Cup Preliminary Round week and Harrow Town beat Tufnell Park 4 0, Vauxhall Motors v Stewartby Works 7 0, West Thurrock Athletic v Clapton 4 2 ( A giant killing), Dagenham British Legion v London Transport (CB) 4 1, Edgware v Pinner 7 0, Huntley & Palmers v Aylesbury 4 1, Maidenhead v Lyons Club 7 2, Epsom v Brookwood Hospital 4 3 and of interest to ourselves, Sawbridgeworth v Berkhamsted 1 6, Harwich & Parkeston v Leyton 2 1, Woodford v Brentwood & Warley 1 8 and Eton Manor v Ekco Southend 2 3.

There was a full and fascinating match report with an apology for not naming the visitors from China, correctly ! Barnet beat Sing Tao Sports Club 5 3.

The London League had a column of their own praising second division West Thurrock Athletic for beating Isthmian League Clapton and Crittall Athletic had to cancel midweek games as they could not arrange time off for their team owing to the production drive. Vickers beat Enfield Cables 7 1, Briggs Sports saw off Royal Ordnance Factory 6 2, Rainham Town beat De Havilland Vampire 2 1 and Royal Navy Depot, Chatham lost 1 2 to Bedford Town

The South Midlands Notes were awash with clubs no longer with us, Bedford Avenue, Marston Shelton, Peartree Old Boys, Bedford St Cuthberts, London Brick (Bletchley), RAF Cardington and Luton Hitchin Road Old Boys all meriting a mention.

One huge F A Cup scoreline was Redhill v Guildford 9-0. In the Spartan League, Slough Centre v Polytechnic was 5 2, Wood Green Town lost 1 8 to Cambridge Town

In the Surrey Senior League, Devas Institute beat Met Police 4 2 and in the Kent County League Thameside Amateurs lost 1 2 to Footscray Social.

Some forthcoming fixtures were, in the Spartan League, Brentwood & Warley v Saffron Walden Town and Epping Town v Stansted., Chelsea Mariners v Berkhamsted Town and in a 14 club division 1 East, Saffron Walden were 11th, Sawbridgeworth 12th and Stansted 13th.

Finally, the one game of interest to the ESL was in the F A Cup, Isthmian League Romford v Athenian League Barking with the headline “Boro’ bustled by Barking”. The kick off was delayed until 4pm at Brooklands with 7,000 present due to the presentation of the Borough Freedom to the Essex Regiment at 3pm. The half time score was 1 1 and the final one, Romford 1 3 Barking. Romford scorer was Bill Parkingson and for Barking, Ron Claydon, and a Charlie Newman brace.
