A LOOK BACK WITH ROB ERRINGTON ON THIS DAY

ON THIS DAY FEBRUARY 1st 2014
This will be short as the rain would not cease meaning the near total decimation of all 16 fixtures both Premier Divisions and the two Reserves, East and West but with one left in isolation, East Thurrock United Reserves losing 2-3 to Rayleigh Town aet in a 4th Round Essex Premier Cup tie. Not only this Saturday’s games but all 8 fixtures in the preceding week were lost as well and only two games beat the weather the Saturday before, Great Wakering Rovers in a 2-2 draw with Enfield 1893 (att 178) in torrential rain and London Apsa Reserves 0-1 v Barking Reserves. There had been one other game Barking v FC Romania but it was abandoned in the 78th minute such was the appalling weather. So there was no change on the leading scorers list with Reece Dobson of Takeley leading on 24 from John Bricknell of Enfield 1893 on 21.
Readers were reminded that all had been lost in 2012 and in 2013 snow and sleet had ruined the programme so it was, even though massively annoying, nothing new!

The Premier Division showed Tower Hamlets FC to be leading the pack, two points ahead of Great Wakering Rovers and Enfield 1893, FC Romania were in 4th, Basildon United 6th, Haringey Borough 8th, Clapton 9th, Sporting Bengal United 13th, London APSA 15th, Southend Manor 16th, Eton Manor 17th, Greenhouse London 19th and London Bari 20th. How life changes in the ESL!

The Reserve Division East found Thurrock to be in the lead from Canvey Island whilst in the West it was Barking leading Chelmsford City. The leading scorer was Danny Aldwinkle of Tilbury on 10.

Waterlogged pitches affected a few National League fixtures but all Football Premier and League games went ahead with West Ham beating Swansea City 2 0 and Hull City securing a 1 1 draw with Spurs in the Premier. League One found Wolves beating Bradford City 1 0 and in League Two Bury beat Wycombe 1 0.

Where next?
