SAFFRON WALDEN TOWN VS STANWAY ROVERS MATCH PREVIEW

By Rowan Dorling

A preview for Sunday's Peter Butcher Memorial Trophy final

Stanway Rovers will be looking to complete the double this season, but in their way will be a resilient Saffron Walden.

Stanway won the Errington Challenge Cup final 4-0 against FA Vase winners Romford. A bright start saw then blow Romford away, as they went 3-0 up before the half hour mark, Tyler Corlett was named Man of the Match for a solid defensive display. In the Peter Butcher semi-final Stanway managed to edge past Woodford Town, another clean sheet and a Harry Thomas goal was enough to send them to the final.

Stanway Rovers players to watch:

Reece Conway, the glue of the Stanway side, their captain often leads by example, he is tough tackling but also gifted with the ball at his feet. Conway was recently awarded Players' POTS, Managers POTS and supporters POTS at Stanways end of season awards.

Tyler Corlett, Stanway's rock at the back is key to their recent turn of form towards the latter end of the season, Stanway have had 2 clean sheets recently in a final and in a semi final, Corlett played a huge part in both them and was even named MOTM in the Errington Challenge Cup Final.

George Okoye, Okoye is a real thorn in the side of opposition defences, he has an eye for goal and loves running in behind, he scored the opening goal in last week Errington Cup final, and will be hoping to be on target again in another final this Sunday.

Saffron Walden beat Barking 1-0 in a close affair last Friday, an early Soloman Ofori goal was the only goal of the game as the Walden defence held strong, with big performances from Powell, Dorling and Taylor leading to a clean sheet.

Saffron Walden players to watch:

Soloman Ofori, an exciting winger who is truly exciting to watch, his dribbling ability is top draw and he knows where the goal is, scoring Saffron Walden's winner in the semi-final. He is a nightmare opponent for any full back.

Jamie Noble, the Blood's captain is vital for Walden, a defensive midfielder who loves a tackle and is not afraid to get on the ball, he is the true heartbeat of this Saffron Walden side. Expect him to play a big part in this game.

Jarvis Monk, the Saffron Walden goalkeeper posses cat-like reflexes, Monk is capable of pulling off jaw dropping saves, has great distribution and is very vocal in organising the Walden backline.

The final is held at Halstead Town FC, and is a 4pm kick off, good luck to both teams.
