LOCKHEED LEAMINGTON FC

Lockheed Leamington was established in 1933 as the works team of Lockheed Borg
and Beck and their nickname “ The Brakes” signifies the products manufactured. They
started life in the Coventry Works League and after some minor changes shortened the
form of name to Lockheed Leamington in 1947 upon joining the Central Amateur
League. The club then moved to the Birmingham Combination in 1949 and eventually
they returned to the Birmingham & District League which became the West Midlands
(Regional) League. After a brief run in the Midland League they moved in 1971 to the
Southern League Division One North.

It is at this juncture and of significance that we have today’s buff coloured 8 page
Match Programme, priced 2.5p for their League game with Wellingborough at the
Windmill Ground on October 21 st 1972 as it was their final season with the name
Lockheed Leamington FC. When Lockheed was renamed Automotive Products in 1973
the football club was renamed AP Leamington and in their first season they won the
Southern League Cup. The match resulted in a 1-0 win for the opposition. Their final
season 1972/73 as Lockheed Leamington was rewarded with a 15 th place out of 22
clubs division with Grantham champions and Addlestone runners up and promoted
whilst Bedworth United were bottom. Stevenage Athletic were three places behind !
As our article is in regard to Lockheed Leamington it is at this stage that our story is
complete but since 1973, the club has seen many a rocky road and even went out of
existence between April 1988 and August 2000 when they lost their Old Windmill
Ground. The club was kept alive in name only and with some brilliant support kept up
their fees and raised enough money to finance a new ground thanks to a local farmer to
build the New Windmill ground where they are today. The link with Automotive
Products ceased in 1985 and they continued under the name we know today,
Leamington FC.
