Essex Senior Football League Wraps Up a Memorable 2024/25 Season

The 2024/25 Essex Senior Football League season came to a dramatic and emotional close over the Bank Holiday weekend, with a packed schedule of finals and celebrations that truly showcased the heart and spirit of non-league football.

The curtain came down with the Reserve Division Cup Final on Friday 2nd May, where Walthamstow U23s claimed the silverware, overcoming Takeley Reserves to become the new holders, Takeley Reserves have had an outstanding season, and unfortunately only one team can win, but we would be remiss to not mention their achievements this season.

The moment was made even more poignant as Walthamstow’s Match Day Secretary, Adam Richardson, presented the trophy to Kenny Dennis, father of the late Kaylen Dennis, who tragically passed away just before Christmas at the age of 16. The moving gesture reflected the unity and compassion that runs through the core of the league.

Elsewhere, the Playoff Final between Takeley and Woodford Town delivered high-stakes drama, with Takeley earning promotion to Step 4 and securing that all-important second promotion place.

While Woodford Town narrowly missed out, having reached the playoff stage for a second consecutive season, their consistency marks them out as a force to be reckoned with next year.

In the South Division Cup Final, it was Heybridge Swifts Reserves who emerged victorious over Ilford Reserves, capping off a strong finish to their campaign. Meanwhile, Great Wakering Rovers completed an impressive Cup Double, having already lifted the Peter Butcher Memorial Trophy before returning on Bank Holiday Monday to triumph once again — this time in the prestigious Errington Challenge Cup.

Both the South Cup and Errington Challenge Cup finals were hosted by Witham Town FC, whose generous hospitality welcomed over 800 spectators, league officers, players, and committee members.

Witham Town's contribution was nothing short of outstanding, helping to deliver a smooth and celebratory day, and the league extends its deepest thanks to the club. As they prepare for the 2025/26 campaign, we wish them a restful summer — although, in truth, the break is short-lived for the many dedicated volunteers already hard at work behind the scenes.

A special mention must go to Little Oakley, who capped off what is arguably their finest season in the Essex Senior League to date. Consistent, competitive, and confident, they’ve firmly established themselves as serious contenders and will undoubtedly be ones to watch in 2025/26.

As one season ends, another quietly begins — with no pause for the passionate individuals who make this league what it is.

The Essex Senior League thanks its clubs, volunteers, and supporters for another unforgettable year of football.
