It’s always heartening to see familiar names return to our league, and we've seen it happen before, clubs reborn, reshaped, and ready to compete again. A notable recent example was when Haringey & Waltham Development re-emerged as Woodford Town.
And now, looking north of the border, there’s another fantastic story of revival.
Inverness Thistle will be playing in the North Caledonian League next season after their application was formally accepted. The name was revived just over a year ago, with Martin Mainland appointed chairman in July last year. From the outset, the club made clear its goal of returning to competitive football—and now it’s reality.
For the first time in over 30 years, a team will take to the pitch under the Inverness Thistle name. They’ll be led by co-managers Drew Martin and Ryan Macleod, who bring over a decade of experience from their time with Culloden in the Inverness and District Amateur Leagues.

With roots dating back to the 1880s, Inverness Thistle has a deep and proud footballing heritage. Their home matches will be played in North Kessock, taking advantage of the pitch availability created by Inverness Athletic's temporary move to Muir of Ord.
Chairman Martin Mainland described the achievement as a true team effort:
“I’m delighted, slightly relieved, but mostly proud of the incredible work done by our team behind the scenes. The committee have been nothing short of amazing.”
It’s often said that it’s never truly over, and this story proves that. Perhaps, one day, we’ll see the return of historic names like Eton Manor in one form or another. No doubt, the likes of Reg Curtis would be watching on with pride.
